About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Sticks and Stones by Jo Jakeman, read by Erin Shanagher.

Imogen’s husband is a bad man. His ex-wife and his new mistress might have different perspectives but Imogen thinks she knows the truth. And now he’s given her an ultimatum: get out of the family home in the next fortnight or I’ll fight you for custody of our son.

In a moment of madness, Imogen does something unthinkable: she locks her husband in the cellar. Now she’s in control. But how far will she go to protect her son and punish her husband? And what will happen when his ex and his girlfriend get tangled up in her plans?

Sticks and Stones is a deliciously twisting psychological thriller from an unforgettable new voice.

This book was excellent, it was a the true definition of a psychological thriller, twists and turns ensured you were itching to turn the next page. Nice to read a book where I enjoyed each character. Narrator was well chosen and brought the story to life. Highly recommend this book, I’m going to search the author for more books.

Gripping read - 5 STARS

I devoured this book. I disagree entirely with the reviewer who said it was too long and far fetched. In my opinion, not a word is wasted. There was more action than one might find in real life, but I never found it implausible. The characters are all highly engaging. It romps along and is a really satisfying read. The ending is also good, with all loose ends tied-up. An excellent debut novel. I very much look forward to the author’s next work.

Loved it!

I quite enjoyed the first part of the story but found myself unwilling to continue and the violence and threat levels increased in a disagreeable way. I’m not sure how the author might have managed the dynamic elements of the narrative without introducing graphic descriptions of violence. But I think it would have been better if she tried a bit harder.

Disagreeable violence against woman ...

Kept me on the edge of my seat till the end.
Very well narrated too.

Excellent

Book was fine, not great literature by any measure but passed the time. Would have been improved if the narrator had had a grasp of the written language. The pronunciation was deplorable. A little homework on words she had not come across before would not have gone amiss.

Tolerably interesting spoilt by abject narration
