About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Our Kind of Cruelty by Araminta Hall, read by Nick Hendrix and Eleanor Matsuura.

Passion, obsession... and murder. A deeply unsettling psychological thriller in which a secret game between lovers has deadly consequences.

Most of us spend our whole lives searching for the person who’ll make us feel complete.

But Mike and Verity know they’re different. They’ve found their soulmate, and nothing can tear them apart.

Not even the man Verity is marrying.

Because they play a secret game, one they call 'the Crave', to demonstrate what they both know: that Verity needs Mike, and Mike alone. But Mike knows that Verity's impending marriage will raise the stakes of their game higher than ever before.

Critic reviews

"Simply one of the most disturbing thrillers I've read in years. In short I loved it, right down to the utterly chilling final line." (Gillian Flynn)
"A tense intelligent thriller that kept me gripped and guessing until the last page - and thinking long after that." (Erin Kelly)
"Toxic love, obsession, and the unflinching unravelling of a mind. Scarily plausible, a great read." (Ali Land)

And so scary, in that there are probably many around us as delusional as the male character (or some might say ...was he). What a brilliant author, keeping the reader/listener engaged right to the end. I did not want the book to finish - its a very good 5 star read!

Captivating & engaging!

The book tackles an important matter and I'm glad I read it. the writing was a bit repetitive though.

interesting but repetitive

I loved this audio book, the story is compelling to hear and it has one of the best narrations I've listened to so far. I much prefer to hear a book from one narrator (apart from a short contribution from the female narrator) who reads the story in one voice without putting on accents or altering their tone of voice. More like this please,

Excellent narration

I kept waiting for the twist at the end….. and then it ended. It was alright, I liked the narrator, but probably wouldn’t recommend as just didn’t grab me
