About this listen
A Richard and Judy Book Club bestseller, The Wife Between Us is a shocking romantic thriller with twists you won't see coming. From Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekannen, the duo behind The Golden Couple.
'A fiendishly clever thriller in the vein of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. This one will keep you guessing' – Anita Shreve, bestselling author of The Stars are Fire
Marrying a man with a past was always going to come with problems – but you never expect to become the focus of another woman’s obsession.
Nellie just wanted to live the life she’d always dreamed about with Richard. But who is his ex-wife, Vanessa? Nellie thinks she knows everything about his previous marriage. That it was a disaster, plain and simple. But, as secrets are unearthed, she starts to think that maybe there is more to the wife before her . . .
Only one thing is certain. She is not who you think she is.

With this book, I did believe I was there. I was taken away to New York, living in the story. The book had good depth which I think will stay with me for a while.
That was the positive bit. The first half of the book simply misleads us. In the second half of the book, the reader proceeds cautiously wondering whether there will be another huge turn about. (I'll not spoil it by telling you whether there was.)
The story is told mainly by Vanessa in the present and she keeps remembering events from different points in the past, between 1-10 years ago. Unlike other books, the events of the past are not "time-stamped" and they aren't in sequence. There were occasions where I wasn't quite sure what time period I was supposed to be in.
Overall, I don't think there was quite enough going on in this book, despite what story there was, being very well written. Hence the three stars. I'm glad I bought the book and I thought that the gentle twist in the epilogue was a satisfying one to close on.
I liked Julia Whelan as the narrator.
Only a GENTLE psycological thriller
