My favourite book as a child and loved listening to it while relaxing at home

loved it

I had this book and audiobook as a child and happily listen to or read it again now. The story is well-crafted and moving, and the narration by Malahide is one of the best I've heard. The abridgement is also well-handled and maintains the crux of the story whilst cutting the length to a digestible amount. Music interludes throughout to break up the story into sections are a welcome edition. I'd recommend this story to young teens specifically and anyone who is looking for genuine poignancy in their audiobook.

Highly recommend

Didn't expect it but fell in love with this book. My son is studying it as school and said to listen to it. I am very glad he did. It can be hard to listen to at times as there are some disturbing themes (especially for parents) but persevere and you will be rewarded.

Beautiful but Heartbreaking

I love this book so when I saw it on audiobooks I thought great but the narrator is very boring doesn’t do voices and the fact he says side one and side to halfway through the book is boring plus some of the book doesn’t actually reflect what happened in the story and on the film I know as I have read the book several times and also seen the film several times but it is okay

Narrator bit boring

It's a great War story about a boy whose life changes. I would recommend it to people aged 10+

Exciting, interesting, sometimes sad
