The book I read in my teen years, made more understandable when being read to you!

I bought this cheaply on offer but it was still a waste of money. I can't listen to it. I stupidly didn't listen to the sample. The reader is American, and at times she manages to pull of an English accent but then suddenly lapses into a sort of 'Gone With The Wind' ladidah... it's completely off-putting. Her pronunciation of
Places like Gloucester end with a burr but it's not a West Country one! And anyway Jane Austen was from Hampshire. The switching accent makes it hard to focus.

Great writer trashed by a dreadful reader

What didn’t you like about Mary Sarah’s performance?

This needed to be read by a voice artist who could pronounce basic words like "oblige" properly. Listen to a sample before you buy, because it really is pretty grating to hear this classic mangled so terribly.

Dreadfully read

Would you consider the audio edition of Persuasion to be better than the print version?

When I started listening to this it sounded like one of those automated mechanical readers but luckily things did settle down a bit later. A nicely quiet rendering of my favourite Austen.

Improves after a shaky start

I always enjoy Jane Austen's stories but had not Read this one.I found the theme of the story less interesting. Lovely read by the narrated.I feel I would need to read this novel again to get to the bottom of it!
