About this listen

This second volume of the brilliant, bestselling Bartimaeus sequence.

Two years have passed since the events of The Amulet of Samarkand and the young magician Nathaniel is rising fast through the government ranks. But his career is suddenly threatened by a series of terrifying crises. A dangerous golem makes random attacks on London and other raids, even more threatening, are perpetrated by the Resistance. Nathaniel and Bartimaeus travel to Prague, enemy city of ancient magic, but while they are there uproar breaks out at home and Nathaniel returns to find his reputation in tatters. Can he rescue it from his Machiavellian adversaries in the government bent on his destruction?

A thrilling sequel in which the relationship between the young magician and the djinni remains as teasing and complex as ever.

Critic reviews

The alternating perspective between the three central characters adds depth, detail and humour to the action-packed thrills
A vast plum pudding of a novel that improves with each mouthful
Fresh, downbeat, witty and wise, this novel is a worthy sequel to The Amulet of Samarkand
Readers can rest easy: this sequel is no pale imitation of its predecessor. The Golem's Eye is another sophisticated, sardonic satire . . . Fast paced, frightening and funny, and you don't want it to end

2nd part of the brilliant Bartemeus trilogy and equally as entertaining as the 1st and 3rd. Energetically read by Steven Pacey the story flies along. Never a dull moment download all three parts, you won't regret it.

Absolutely enjoyed it, even more so than The Amulet of Samarkand. I only wish they'd include the footnotes I vaguely remember from reading the books years ago.

Even better than the first one

Second book & I thought much better than book 1. There are references to book 1, but you don't necessarily have had to have read it. The story moves at a good pace, draws you in & although no real surprises it is fun. Essentially a teenage read, but I loved it & will be moving onto the next one shortly. Makes a car journey go very quickly & you'll be looking for traffic jams to join.

A great listen

Brilliant work by Stroud and expertly read. My only note would be to incorporate the footnotes that served as Batlrtimaeus's thoughts in the written work as they oft provide context or personal insight relevant to the story

Brilliant as ever

Having read the series and listened to stephen pacey's excellent reading of the first book in the series, i couldnt wait to hear this one. The books are very well written and pacey, through vocal inflection brings the characters to life very well.

Another fantastic offering , from a great series.

Listen and enjoy, you wont be disapointed.
