About this listen

Bloomsbury presents Coraline by Neil Gaiman, read by Dawn French.

When Coraline moves with her parents to a new house she is fascinated by the fact that their 'house' is infact only half of the house! Divided in to flats years before there is a brick wall behind a door where once there was a corridor and one day it is corridor again down which the intrepid Coraline wanders. And so a nightmare-ish mystery begins that takes Coraline in to the arms of counterfeit parents and a life that isn't quite right. Can Coraline get out? Can she find her real parents? Will life ever be the same again?

I wish I had known this tale in my childhood. A bit, okay, a lot scary, but it helps you not to be afraid of the scary elements rather than make you scared.

AMAZING

I loved this modern day take on an Alice in Wonderland or C.S. Lewis type trip into a dark and disturbing alternate world behind the locked door in the flat. Coraline has to battle dangers, and monstrous creations to get back to her own world. There is a lot of action and adventure, and a gothic horror feel but it is an ideal children's book.
The Narration was very good, and at a slightly sped up pace fitted very well. Just enough "mumsiness" and yet still well dramatized voice work.
Definitely recommend this for the kids or grandkids and their parents and grandparents will enjoy it too.

Listened to it while getting housework done. Good length to finish in one day and Dawn French read it well.

Coraline Review

As one would expect from Neil Gaiman this is a beautiful story. It's atmospheric and has some life-lessons. Dawn French was the perfect choice for reader. It's not a story that is suitable for under 10s because it's frightening at times.

I really enjoyed this
