Summary

A grand old London hotel A series of alarming coincidences Danger lurking down every corridor

Impeccable service. Luxurious rooms. Eccentric guests. There are worse places for Canon Pennyfather to find himself stranded than Bertram’s Hotel.

But when he gets his dates in a muddle and attempts to travel to Lucerne a day too late, he unwittingly sets off a violent chain of events.

And Miss Marple is convinced there is more going on than meets the eye.

Never underestimate Miss Marple

‘Agatha Christie inspired me, aged eleven, to write my own murder mystery set in a country village. I can’t remember much of the plot (think the vicar did it) but Christie has been inspiring me ever since.’
Elly Griffiths

"A joy...from beginning to end." (The New York Times)

Would you listen to At Bertram's Hotel again? Why?

Definitely. It's a book which just keeps you on the edge of your seat.

What other book might you compare At Bertram's Hotel to, and why?

No comparison.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I enjoyed the scene at the beginning where people were having tea in the drawing room.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's just a book you can't put down - you have to listen to it all the way through.

Any additional comments?

This is different to a lot of Agatha Christie books, particularly given that the greater part of it is about robberies which the police are investigating which they trace to Bertram's Hotel although as yet they have no proof, and, though there is a murder, it doesn't happen until five hours or so through the book. It shows the efficiency of people at the hotel as they work under a mask which nobody would suspect and I like the part where Rose Sheldon brings Miss Marple her breakfast on her first morning. I heartily recommend the book.

Stephanie Cole is a fabulous narrator and I wish she had been able to more.
How she kept all the characters separate all the way through I shall never know.
Brilliant story from Agatha too….

I remember when I bought this book it was read by Joan Hickson! What happened to the original audio book narrated by Joan Hickson? you have replaced it with this version by Stephanie Cole who is very good too but I want the Joan Hickson audio which was my original purchase.

Where is my original version that I bought ?
