An excellent and detailed book giving an accurate and detailed account of climbing a mountain. in this case Everest, but much of what is described applies on lesser peaks too.

I've listened to many books on Everest but this was by far my favourite. If you're looking for a big disaster - read The Climb or Into Thin Air. However, if you're looking for an honest, enthralling and sometimes funny account of an average man's journey to reach the summit...this is the book for you.

The good thing about this book is the day to day detail that more seasoned mountaineers assume that we armchair climbers already know. It really is meticulous in describing, almost hour by hour, what it really feels like to take part in an Everest expedition. The listener really lives the story with the author.

But the narration........! It seems an native Irishman has been chosen, which is excellent as it matches the author's background. But it is a monotone drone from start to finish, even in recounting conversation. I found it excellent to fall asleep to!

Also you can imagine that the word "Crevasse" comes up very frequently in this sort of book. The narrator insists in calling it a "crevice", like a slot down the back of your sofa. This is a serious goof and should have been picked up by the editor

It's a great achievement. Huge respect to him. There's possibly a little too much detail of the ascent (step by step) and too little context and history. It's good but seems a little amateurish in places.
