About this listen

Artemis II: Shadows Beyond the Moon

The Moon is no longer just a destination—it’s a doorway.

Commander Alyssa Reeve and her crew embark on humanity’s second lunar mission, a routine voyage that quickly descends into a nightmare beyond comprehension. Strange signals pulse from the Moon’s far side, instruments fail, and the boundaries between reality and hallucination begin to fracture. As isolation, sleep deprivation, and cosmic anomalies escalate, the crew confronts a terrifying truth: the Moon may be alive—and watching.

With systems failing, voices bleeding through radio static, and shadows that move with a mind of their own, Alyssa must navigate the unraveling of time, space, and sanity. Every decision carries weight, every signal could be the last, and every corner of the Moon hides a secret older than humanity itself.

Dark, psychological, and scientifically grounded, Artemis II: Shadows Beyond the Moon is a gripping tale of isolation, cosmic horror, and the fragile resilience of the human mind when faced with the unimaginable. Perfect for fans of hard science fiction, psychological thrillers, and the eeriest reaches of space.

Artemis II: Shadows Beyond the Moon by David Cameron is a compelling continuation of the Artemis saga, blending lunar intrigue with emotional depth. Cameron’s prose is crisp and cinematic, making the moon’s shadowy terrain feel both alien and intimate.
While some plot turns lean on familiar sci-fi tropes, the character development—especially of the lead protagonist—adds a refreshing layer of humanity. The pacing is brisk, and the stakes feel real, keeping readers engaged throughout.
It’s a solid sequel that expands the universe without losing its core. Fans of space thrillers will find plenty to enjoy, even if it doesn’t reinvent the genre.
I didn't like the way the book was edited between chapters, very abrupt changes

ive just listened to this book in 2 sittings, I usually get fed up with the narrators voice but not with this. I was hooked in the first couple of chapters and the story just got better, not my usual genre, I hope there will be a sequel.

the idea is good, space horror involving the dark side of the moon is a safe bet. but the story is let down by endless repetitive paragraphs, expressions, and words that sometimes don't even fit the plot. Perception, participants, observing. Endless descriptions of shadows on the walls and black patterns on Halloran's skin. I finished it up because I wanted to see how it ends but I am not enamoured. the narrator's performance picks up a little bit and becomes less monotonous as the book progresses, but wherever this was recorded it picked up random background sounds. Also, like another reviewer pointed out, leave a bit of a gap between chapters. The performance seems rushed in places, which, tbh, I don't blame the narrator for. Narrator's voice is fine, just needs to work on cadences and empathic expressiveness.

Interesting concept, but ...
