Summary

Five toasts. Five people. One lifetime.

I'm here to remember - all that I have been and all that I will never be again.

At the bar of a grand hotel in a small Irish town sits 84-year-old Maurice Hannigan. He's alone, as usual - though tonight is anything but. Pull up a stool and charge your glass, because Maurice is finally ready to tell his story.

Over the course of this evening, he will raise five toasts to the five people who have meant the most to him. Through these stories - of unspoken joy and regret, a secret tragedy kept hidden, a fierce love that never found its voice - the life of one man will be powerfully and poignantly laid bare.

Heart-breaking and heart-warming all at once, the voice of Maurice Hannigan will stay with you long after all is said.

amazingly beautiful

This has to be one of the most beautifulist books i've ever read. I loved Maurice from the first moment we met. the narration was wonderful and the narrator made you feel you were sitting with Maurice while he was telling his story. I can say nothing else about this book only you won't regret reading it.

Best book ever

I have read and listen to hundreds of books and never given any sort of review . Good or bad. Had to for this one . Never enjoyed one so much. It was from a man from a different generation told so honestly . Very funny and sad all together. I’m sad to be finished .

A real Irish gem - loved it, loved it, loved it!!!!

I loved Maurice & am devastated to have finished the book! Niall Buggy makes him so real - like listening to my own father/grandfather. And his wife was a saint! The descriptions including Irish phrases were truly excellent! I’m glad I listened to this book instead of reading it, as it’s so much more real. Loads of laugh out loud moments, much to the astonishment of my family! Thank you Ann Griffen & Niall Buggy.

Excellent!!

This is a book that will stay in your thoughts long after you have read it. One of the best books I have listened too and the narrator really brought it to life. A story about love and relationships in their many different forms. Loved it!
