About this listen

Ten invited guests on an island…

Ten strangers, apparently with little in common, are lured to an island mansion off the coast of Devon by the mysterious U.N.Owen. Over dinner, a record begins to play, and the voice of an unseen host accuses each person of hiding a guilty secret. That evening, former reckless driver Tony Marston is found murdered by a deadly dose of cyanide.

The tension escalates as the survivors realise the killer is not only among them but is preparing to strike again… and again…

Critic reviews

‘One of the very best, most genuinely bewildering Christies.’
Observer

‘The most astonishingly impudent, ingenious and altogether successful mystery story since The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.’
Daily Herald

‘One of the most ingenious thrillers in many a day.’
Time Magazine

‘There is no doubt that this is a highly ingenious jigsaw by a master of puzzling.’
Books

‘There is no cheating; the reader is just bamboozled in a straightforward way from first to last… The most colossal achievement of a colossal career. The book must rank with Mrs Christie’s previous best – on the top notch of detection.’
New Statesman

‘The whole thing is utterly impossible and utterly fascinating. It is the most baffling mystery Agatha Christie has ever written.’
New York Times

This is my favorite Agatha Christie book, it is the best 'locked room' mystery ever written. Having all the characters stuck on an island with an unknown killer picking them off one by one is the perfect story. We get the back story of each character built up throughout the novel and understand why each person has been picked for this island trip. Particularly brilliant is the epilogue which explains the why's and how's of the murders. A gripping story from start to finish.

The finest 'locked room' mystery written

An excellent mystery - worthy of its status as one of Christie's finest works. Ten people are invited by an unknown person to Soldier Island. Cut off from the mainland they are played a recording accuses them all of evil-doings and shown a poem prophesying their deaths. Then the first victim dies, but who is behind it all and will it really end with none surviving?

This is an unusual murder mystery seen not through the eyes of the murderer or the detective, but through the eyes of the victims, who know that the murderer is after them. It has not only the satisfaction of a puzzle to be solved, but also an ominous atmosphere of threat.

As an audiobook, the narrator does a really good job of using different accents for the characters, which really helped keep them all straight in my head - very useful when there are so many of them to start with!

Will any of them survive?

What did you like most about And Then There Were None?

The twist upon twist, the fake open ending TWICE

What other book might you compare And Then There Were None to, and why?

This was my first "closed room murder mystery" but its kinda similar to "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde"

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The final showdown between the last two survivors

Any additional comments?

Great story, will pick up "Murder on the Orient Express" with my next credit before moving on to different genres of books
