Summary

An Exposition of Hebrews considers the epistle’s purpose, theme, divisions, characteristics, value, and its writer. It then delves into each verse and passage, explaining the truths found within and giving valuable insight into how one can apply these truths to life.

This classic volume is the result of 20 years of research by Arthur Pink, who read dozens of commentaries and gave lectures on the Epistle of Hebrews. It is one of Pink’s earlier works and originally appeared in his monthly magazine, Studies in the Scriptures.

Volume one contains Chapters 1 through 53.

This is a wonderful tool for pastors, students, or anyone wishing a deeper understanding of this important book from the Bible. It is packed with sermon material as it illuminates passages on:

  • The life of Abraham
  • The faith of Sarah, Jacob, Moses, Rahab, and others
  • The Christian’s call to diligence and contentment
  • The kingdom of Christ
  • Spiritual freedom, and more

This volume makes the Scriptures shine with clearer light and is a helpful guide for mining the inexhaustible wealth of God’s Word.

Interesting and informative

This is a book for scholars or earnest Bible students. I’d like to think that I fall in the latter category but, I do believe that whilst I am striving for Biblical knowledge and expertise, I am still, as the apostle Paul say, a baby.

Inasmuch as I read the King James version of the Bible initially, my default is always the NLT or the NKJV, this exposition is written in the manner of the KJV! This makes it harder sometimes, to follow.

Notwithstanding this, I found the exposition interesting, although there was one point where I didn’t agree with his theology (his statements about the sabbath seemed not quite right). However the discourse on the Hebrews chapter 10, dealing with apostasy is fascinating and deep! I did not see that (& not in so much depth) as the discourse entailed. It ends on that discussion which gives me the opportunity to re-read Hebrews 10 in all of my various translations, then onto volume 2.
