I was a bit dubious to being with as the narrator appeared to speak very slowly. However she is very clear and crisp and once I got my ear in I found that my initial impressions were wrong and I was infact drawn into the story even more.

Amy Snow is a unfortunate girl of the period who has many struggles and has many hardships. This is a great story of how she battles through and eventually triumphs. I was so drawn in that in places I was welling up and was so desperate for the story to ensure that Amy Snow was alright!

I don't often get completely consumed by a book, but this one had me! I often listen on my commute into work and found myself sitting outside not wanting to go in as I wanted to hear more!

Completely drawn in

Loved this book it was very enjoyable. Definitely on par with any Jane Austen Novel.

Amazing book.

The plot is clever, being a treasure hunt of sorts, but on a grand scale. There is a wealth of characters, as Amy threads her way across England, solving the mystery.

Some of this book is almost pantomime - if the author wants to paint someone as a villain, they are very villainous, sometimes bafflingly so, behaving in evil ways that really have no explanation. The plot also depends upon so many coincidences which gets a bit trying. Guess who Amy will run into now...of course, it is always the very person most or least welcome at that very moment, but critical to the development of the story.

The ending did become apparent to me about half way through, but that didn't spoil it.

The narration is good.

Overall, and despite it being hard to really warm to the main character, it is a diverting story and it held my interest.
