Really, just not my thing...

I think I got off on the wrong foot with this book. I downloaded it in the hope of some insight into female and feminist views on sexuality, which the first few chapters do provide, but the language was gratuitously vile and made me feel a little uncomfortable. I can put up with being called a super sexy woman over and over again (I'm a middle aged man) but I was left with the overwhelming impression that the world Gigi lives in is not the world I live in. I appreciate the psychological value of this boom on reaffirming the identity and choices of younger women but I was left questioning the balance between the factual nature of the anecdotal evidence and their value as self-affirmation. I must confess I did not finish the last two chapters as I began to feel like I was reading a glossy magazine, which is not what I thought I was signing up for. Don't get me wrong, I think this was a valuable book and if I were a young woman struggling to come to terms with my sexual identity I really think it should be required reading, it's just not what I was looking for.
