A gargantuan horseshoe-shaped ship appears over the mining planet Shānmén, unleashing a black rain of death that creates Xenomorph-like monsters worse than the darkest of nightmares.

As war breaks out among the colonies, a huge ship appears over the UPP mining planet Shānmén, releasing a horror that yields hideous transformations. Rescue is too far away, and the colonists’ only hope appears in the form of the vessel Righteous Fury. It carries the Jackals—an elite mix of former Colonial Marines and Royal Marines. Led by Zula Hendricks, the Jackals seek to rescue the few survivors from the depths of the planet, but have they arrived on time?

Dreadful stilted narration - almost impossible to listen to which ruined an otherwise good albeiet meandering story. A bit of trite racist anti-british rhetoric snuck in at the end by the author was a tad disappointing, as that effort would have been better spent improving the overall pace and direction of the story. Not the best from this author. Her sequel to this however is genuinely excellent!

Disappointed

it could have been great but there was too much emphasis on the thoughts and feelings or the characters. I found a lot of sexism towards men too which ruined the great storyline

the epilogue saved this story.

The story was compelling at parts and included strong characters like Zula Hendricks. however I struggled with my attention to the story as the Narrator fell flat during most of it.

I think Shiromi Arserio should have done the narration for this type of story and characters.

I was disappointed that the miners didn't explore more of the underground ship. But we did learn more about the lore.

overall ok listen with some minor history lessons and new Xenomorphs

Good addition to the Alienverse, however...

I've really enjoyed the story arc so far, but really struggled to listen to this book purely because of the narration. I would have enjoyed it much more with someone else (sorry).

Great story, terrible narator

Normally I don't leave reviews on the books I read but this one has such a low score that I needed to do it justice. It is as a fact a really good book, with engaging characters and a good development of the story. For my taste my favourite by far, the description and horror you can get into gets under your skin. However, despite the fact I loved it, I want to highlight two important things about it:
1) The lack of male characters that are significant to the story can be disconcerting if you are not use to stories where (only) women are leading the story.
2) There is a specific comment one of the leading characters makes, paraphrasing she says something akin to "all men are useless, even the synthetic ones". I found it distasteful, but then at the same time, you need to understand where that's coming from, it is the character being incorrectly biased, like all humans are in many things.
3) The story doesn't have a start, nor an end. Don't start this book looking for answers to the main Alien universe because there are none. Absolutely zero explanation but a lot of horror and some additional information on previous characters as well as the introduction of new ones. It feels to be more like an interlude than anything else.
4) The narrator's delivery is not bad, the lady's voice is soothing but I am not sure this was the right story for her. This needed more emotional interpretation than we got.

Personally I loved it.

I enjoyed it so much.
