Summary

All three series of Alexei Sayle’s hilarious stand-up and story-telling show.

The Godfather of alternative comedy, Alexei Sayle, mixes memoir and philosophy from behind the counter of his imaginary sandwich bar, serving up wit, wisdom and illusory baguettes as he muses on a multitude of topics.

In these 12 shows, he explores his impulse to pretend and his love of sandwiches, discusses his childhood in a communist household and his physical attraction to Boris Johnson, explains why he will never go on Strictly Come Dancing and draws a striking comparison between capitalism and all-you-can-eat buffets. He also reveals where all the Millets shops have gone, considers the appeal of Donald Trump, tells us how to get a cheap drink in the centre of Paris and recounts the difficulties he faced when tracking down his lost cat.

From considerations of ethics and political discussions to anecdotes about celebrities and tales of his family, his freewheeling flights of fancy and madcap monologues will make you laugh out loud. So why not drop into Alexei’s deli and listen in, as one of the leading lights of the foccacia revolution shares his weird and wonderful worldview.

Spite, bile and invective - at no extra cost!

There's not many comedians who are still funny after over 40 years in the business, but Sayle is one of them.
Pin-sharp observations, surrealism and politics are combined in this collection of his most recent BBC radio shows. Absolutely hilarious but don't listen in public in case you make a prat out of yourself laughing out loud.

The sound of genius

Just brilliant. Alexei Sayle is a clever man with a delightful turn of phrase. Most of all it's very funny. I will listen again.

Best stand-up I've heard.

I laughed so much at this and keep going back to it. It's great how he blends serious topics with killer punchlines.

Who Ate All The Pies

Funniest thing I have heard for years, works brilliantly in audible format and even better as read by the author

Comic genius

I somehow seem to have missed out on Alexei Sayle's work in the 80's and 90's. I got this having heard his interview on the Comedian's Comedian podcast with Stuart Goldsmith. This is just hilarious through and through. He has a left wing bent, but it is just full of absurd bits and packed full of jokes, so it never feels like you are being preached to.

Very funny and original...a great British comedian

Original and funny mix of life comedy, anecdotes from Alexei's life, satire, mixed with him snearing at all politics - even though he's a Jewish Marxist! And there's the imaginary customers to his imaginary sandwich bar! Rediscover Alexei if you remember him from his TV shows and if he's new to you you've found a original voice in UK comedy

A welcome return from Alexei Sayle.

I've missed Sayle's wonderfully inventive and political humour and this is a great vehicle for him. Really enjoyed this and I hope there is more to come from this great comedian.

A national treasure? Quite probably.

To be honest, I think that you either love Alexei's humour; equal parts, unique, absurd, intelligent and all built on the foundation of his native sarcastic Scouse wit. Or you don't. It's entirely personal. I've loved him since 'Lenin of The Rovers' (Radio) and 'Stuff' (TV) in the '80s; so obviously I thoroughly enjoyed this collection and it's great to see that his fire hasn't dimmed with the passing years. It's also definitely helped by being recorded in front of a live audience. Give it a go.
