My 6 year old daughter has just listened to the whole of Dr Doolittle for the 3rd time since schools closed in March. We love the characters, their adventures and most of all the animals.

I could happily listen to Alan Bennett reading the phonebook, so I was very excited about this title. It did not disappoint: a beautiful children’s literature classic, excellently narrated. Alan Bennett gives Dr Dolittle’s animals very distinct voices, an unexpectedly amusing aspect when one is used to his “usual” narration from his diaries. All in all a very enjoyable listen.

I love this story but it is narrated by Alan Bennett and so the story is doubly delicious.

Alan read the classic well. Grand with voices.
Dolittle was so nice to animals.
The horse got me.
Grand they went to Africa.
Polynesia made a clown of the pompous king. Serves him right.
The Lion leader sure learn to be humbler.
The Barbary Dragon was a jerk. His freaking out over the sharks and Dolittle banishing him to the canary lands got me. Karma for his sins.
Nice how Dolittle improve the circus for the benefit of juice and animals.
