Publisher's Summary

Action thriller by the classic adventure writer set in the islands of the Caribbean.

Ferocious Hurricane Mabel is predicted to pass harmlessly amongst the islands of the Caribbean. But David Wyatt has developed a sixth sense about hurricanes. He is convinced that Mabel will change course to strike the island of San Fernandez and its capital, St Pierre. But nobody believes him, and the hurricane is only one of the problems that threaten San Fernandez....

What the Critics Say

"As long as meticulous craftsmanship and honest entertainment are valued, and as long as action, authenticity, and expertise still make up the strong framework of the good adventure/thriller, Desmond Bagley's books will surely be read." (Reginald Hill, Twentieth Century Crime and Mystery Writers)
"Bagley is a master storyteller." (Daily Mirror)
"Mr Bagley has no equal at this sort of thing." (Sunday Mirror)
"Stories charged with suspense." (Financial Times)

    "Easy read"

First read this a long time ago and enjoyed it , and now enjoyed it again. Nothing too complicated a couple of odd touches for 21st century feelings perhaps. At least the female character was good for the time.
Regarding the narration: a couple of real jarring pronunciations, e.g Nobel (as in Nobel prize) pronounced noble, and a couple of other instances. But overall ok.

Find some others of Desmond Bagley to read now. Looking forward to Snow Tiger being released.

    "Great story"

It is SO NICE to read an adventure story that doesn't have gratuitous sex, isn't full of the f-word, and doesn't have a bunch of politically correct garbage in it. Bagley and Alistair MacLean (among others) are proof positive that rot isn't necessary for a great story. If you still have an ounce of decency in you, give Bagley a try. You won't be disappointed.
