Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable, audiobook addition of According to Yes, the hilarious new novel by Dawn French.

The Foreign Land of the Very Wealthy - otherwise known as Manhattan's Upper East Side - has its own rigid code of behaviour. It's a code strictly adhered to by the Wilder-Bingham family. Emotional displays - unacceptable. Unruly behaviour - definitely not welcome. Fun - no thanks. This is Glenn Wilder-Bingham's kingdom. A beautifully displayed, impeccably edited fortress of restraint.

So when Rosie Kitto, an eccentric 38-year-old primary school teacher from England, bounces into their lives with a secret sorrow and a heart as big as the city, nobody realises that she hasn't read the rule book. For the Wilder-Bingham family, whose lives begin to unravel thread by thread, the consequences are explosive. Because after a lifetime of saying no, what happens when everyone starts saying...yes?

Not As Good as First novel

Any additional comments?

Each of Dawn French's novels have been a bit worse than the previous one. I loved " A Tiny Bit Marvellous." "Oh Dear Sylvia" was a bit slow in some spots, but was saved by its ending. "According to Yes" was a big disappointment The lead character comes across as a middle age slut. While she is funny and witty, I just couldn't warm to her character. While there is nothing inherently wrong by a liberal, sexually uninhibited heroine, I don't think this story is the right venue.

Yes to this

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters in the book who developed really well throughout. This book worked well with different narrators. Worth a listen.

Wishful thinking.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I suppose this story is a wishful tale of someone who wants to break free. The main character has spirit and guile. I'm not sure about the relationship with one of the characters, it is a little odd and if you're prudish I would avoid this.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

A little disappointed!

Which scene did you most enjoy?

There are lots of funny moments and dialogue that is thoughtful and sad.

Persevere

It's slow to begin with, then just can't stop listening. Second half outcome was not what I expected.

Enjoyable, funny but a bit far fetched in places.

Well narrated and easy to listen to. Good holiday audio. Lost enthusiasm part way through with far fetched story but stuck with it and glad I did. Some good life leasons.

Just wonderful

Fabulous from start to finish. Love, humour, heartache and honesty. I felt I knew every character personally... Beautifully narrated.

Decent listen

What was lacking in story was made up for with superb narration. I liked that most of the characters were voiced by different people. I was definitely shocked by how raunchy this story was at times was not expecting that at all ha ha. Dawn French could give 50 Shades a run for its money 😂 I also had a bit of a love hate relationship with most of the characters. However, it was a very easy listen and the story did keep me engaged enough to get through it very quickly (for me).

Story good with OMG moments but performance poor

The story of According to Yes was quite enjoyable. The contrast of the British girl and the high-class American family was enjoyable to listen too.

Unfortunately I felt the performances were poor, particularly of the American characters. I felt that the voice didn't match the age of the characters very well or even in some cases the gender. I also felt that none of the performers conveyed much emotion in their speech making it all a bit 2 dimensional.
