About this listen

When William places Abraham on the page, he thinks he’s in command. After all, isn’t that what authors do--create people to say things for them that they cannot say for themselves?

But Abraham is full of surprises and does not always do as he is told. On one level, this is a novel about love and spiritual eldering, but there is also an underlying theme that asks the metaphysical question: Who writes our stories?

Set on the Suffolk coast, looking out across a shingle beach to the sea, Abraham Soar is full of humor, wisdom, and pathos and captures the atmosphere and peacefulness of coastal living. It is the second book of the Suffolk Trilogy, which began with The House by the Marsh.

I loved this book. Took me a little while to get into it. But then found myself immersed in it. Listening to it was a wonderfully calming experience and I’m so sorry it’s over.

Loved it, loved it, loved it

I really enjoy Mr Blyghtons style of writing. This is not a criticism but I like the simplified style and there is a rhythm to his work that reminds me fondly of a Peter and Jane book. Lots of use of each other's name. Lots of 'do you think so' and using some of the question's words in the answer. Its very soothing , slow paced, relaxing, and all absorbing and simple lessons to be learned. I am ready to start book 3 and I hope there will be a book 4.

Another brilliant book from Mr Blyghton

The first book I loved (orthodox reading) and I guess I was not ready for the shift from orthodox narrator to the awakening of the created character and their relationship with the author. The reader’s voice is beautiful and gentle but curiously irritating after a few chapters. I think I’m being over-subjective and wouldn’t want to put anyone off listening as there are moments, as in the first book, of real beauty. Put it this way: I certainly want to read the final book but perhaps not on Audible. I wish I could give 3.5 stars!

Strangely uncompelling second book in the Suffolk trilogy
