About this listen

An ordinary family man, geologist, and Mormon, Soren Johansson has always believed he'll be reunited with his loved ones after death in an eternal hereafter. Then, he dies. Soren wakes to find himself cast by a God he has never heard of into a Hell whose dimensions he can barely grasp: a vast library he can only escape from by finding the book that contains the story of his life.

In this haunting existential novella, author, philosopher, and ecologist Steven L. Peck explores a subversive vision of eternity, taking the reader on a journey through the afterlife of a world where everything everyone believed in turns out to be wrong.

A short listen, but a very enjoyable one.

A subtle sort of horror.

Well read.

A specific, terrifying sort of horror

A scary, understandably frustrating and fascinating story that opens up hope for those that seek forgiveness in the afterlife. I think that the cruelty of some characters, and the affection for others, is fitting of humanity. One of those questions to which you get no answers. You must interpret it on your own, and try to understand the powerlessness and agony of the characters. And learn to accept, you must find your own answer within.

Terrifying and frustrating, in a good way.

The feeling of absolute dread after reading this book. I've never come across a book that has made me question life and death!

My head is battered.
