About this listen

Many biographies of people with schizophrenia seem to dwell primarily on the feeling of hopelessness, and they keep expectations for the sufferer's future low. With this autobiography, Mr. Jiang attempts to turn the tables on this litany of sorrow. He shows himself as a result of the miracles that modern medicine can produce. He went from being a basket case to a respected, technologically-savvy medical librarian working at a world-renowned research institution.©2010 William Jiang (P)2013 William Jiang Activists Mental Health Politics & Activism Psychology Psychology & Mental Health Schizophrenia & Psychotic Disorders Health Biography

I bought this audiobook as I’m currently working on my own autobiography audiobook called, ‘I still have Dreams a life with Schizophrenia.’ I liked how frank and personable William is. William seems a really nice deep thinking man. It was a pleasure getting to know him through this audiobook. I would have preferred it if he narrated his book personally to get more emotion. My Criticism is that it’s not edited well. You hear the narrator clear his throat and repeat bits. But this didn’t detract from the story. I think the narrator had a good voice. It is admirable what a strong work ethic William has, although a return to work is not a mark of success with the illness, rather being well, kind and enjoying life is I feel. But I do agree with volunteering and work can be very rewarding and empowering. There is a lot of academia in the book, and I would have liked to hear more about his times with his brothers that he hints could be another book. I know living with Schizophrenia is not an easy story to tell, and I thank and appreciate William sharing his heartfelt story. I wish William and his family and friends all the best.

His honesty and recognition of his illness.
