About this listen

“An engaging love story with strong, believable characters. I can’t wait to read the sequels!”
—Mary Balogh

“Prepare to fall in love.”
—Julia Quinn

Presenting the winner of the Avon FanLit contest, the immensely talented Tessa Dare! Tessa’s first Avon historical romance, A Night to Surrender, is a love story to remember—kicking off her wonderfully inventive Spindle Cove series, set in England’s Regency Era in a small seaside resort town that caters specifically to ladies “of good breeding and delicate constitution.” Fans of Lisa Kleypas, Christina Dodd, and Liz Carlyle will delight in the passionate chaos that ensues when a dashing British officer, under orders, “invades” this community of strong-willed “spinsters,” only to discover he’s met his match in Miss Susannah Finch!

Likes this was quite funny and not a simpering female as lead - super alpha though.
Laugh out loud funny in parts and really touching in others.
i struggled a bit with the narrator to start with, but warmed up and in the latter half of the book really started to enjoy her style and voices.
Can't wait for the rest of the stories now.

Great start to series

Loved every second of it. It was a very sweet story, nothing very exciting though.
The narrator was very good.
I will definitely be listening to the rest of the series.

Loved it

Many parts of this book are worth 4 stars, but a couple of points brought it down. 1) I don't like really sad parts, especially involving youngsters and found the explosion episode upsetting. Especially as the outcome cannot be reversed. 2) The book is too long. The last third could easily be condensed - I started getting bored and wanted it to finish.
On the positive side: 1) I loved the start 2) the episode where the boys (and men) were instructed in how to charm a lady had me laughing out loud, and 3) the idea of there being a spindle cove "sanctuary" is rather pleasing .
Overall, it's a another easy listen. Having read three of Tessa Dares novels now I think I prefer Mary Jane Wells as narrator, she has more humour in her voice reading the funny bits.

Almost 4 stars
