Summary

After her father and brother disappeared, Lady Jane Lennox is managing Bellhaven Castle. Nonetheless, her aunt has invited six suitors to compete for the right to her hand - and to protect Bellhaven's towers of cool, pink-gray stone. Among the six is Nicholas Kincaid, the one-time object of Jane's affection. Two years ago, her brother banished Nicholas. A mere "sir," in want of title or land, Nicholas was not marriage material. Now, Nicholas will have the chance to compete in challenges of wit and skill, rather than heraldry. But against noble swordsmen, dancers, and charmers, can he possibly win back her heart? The six highland lairds could not ride sooner to the snowy bailey walls, as strange things keep happening to the family: a faulty carriage wheel, a loose step, high in a stone tower. Accidents, no doubt. But by Christmastide, Lady Jane will secure Bellhaven and choose a new love.

An Interesting Cast of Characters

At the start of this book I thought there were way too many people for me to keep track of, but actually it worked. I very easily settled into the story line and I was enjoying the way the plot unfolded. The addition of a little mystery and a little danger was just perfect for what is essentially a Happily Ever After romance novel. My only complaints would be the usual heroine disregarding her own safety and stupidly ignoring the obvious ways to stay safe, and the voice the narrator used for the 'villains' of the piece just had me in stitches. I could not take them seriously. The 'baddie' voice was just a little too over-the-top for me. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing how the other suitors fare, particularly Colin and the hot tempered David.

Not my thing – I’ve heard better

The prior reviewer who said this book was like The Bachelor meets Highland romance was correct. I don’t like or watch The Bachelor for several reasons, and those elements were in this book. The main female character, Jane, was stupid, naïve, and shallow. A couple of the bachelors had less than desirable characters before they came to the castle, but somehow all instantly overcame their character flaws when competing (except Bryce, who took a little longer). I didn’t find the plot realistic and it seemed the timelines weren’t quite consistent either. I didn’t care for the narrator either – she overdid it at points, but mostly I think it was personal preference. I was bored & annoyed & so had to put this one down at a point and I came back to it after I listened to another book. I did manage to finish it, though, which is why I gave it two stars (instead of one).

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The story was well written with a totally different theme than most of the highland romance books. It had just enough twists and turns and a little steamy love....could have been a little more for my taste...however, I would recommend this to anyone. The narrator did a wonderful job on the narration.

A very good interesting story

I gave it 4 stars because of the two sex scenes than I could really do without. They were too long and I was anxious to get on with the rest of the story. But over all it's a very good interesting story

Kept me entertained

So, this was a cute little story. It wasn’t anything more than that. One woman and six men in competition for a marriage that came with money and property. Basically all the men turned out to be good guys but she only liked one from the beginning, so it really wasn’t that interesting. There were parts in it that were funny and parts in it that was sweet, and so it kept me entertained. The narrators voice was mostly OK, sometime she got annoying . Especially when it was an action or intense scene. Also, the book was too PG for me.

The Bachelorette meets Historical Scotland

Bachelorette in historical Scotland....very different start to a book...6 suitors...how could a girl choose?

Loved this book, because it was so different from most that I have read recently. The storyline with six suitors competing to be Lady Jane's husband. There was excitement, danger, & love.

I enjoyed all the characters and hope to see all of them in future books. The plot and characters were really well developed.

Buy this book...it's really inexpensive and save your credits for more expensive books.

Better than the second part....

The story was better than the second part. But the narration....I don't know....also slightly better....if there will be a 3rd book hopefully with another narrator.

Great, Justine Eyre will be reading the next book!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Good story despite Ann Flosnik. Does her father own an audio company, mob ties,...?

What other book might you compare A Laird for Christmas to and why?

I think for this genre the plot was very unique. Must marry plots aplenty, yet this one stands out.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Yes

Was A Laird for Christmas worth the listening time?

yes

Any additional comments?

typical highland romance

There was nothing special or unusual about this book, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, actually I couldn't put it down, but that's the best I can say. The characters lacked something this book needed, they lacked sparkle, charisma, a bigger than life presence. They lacked CHARACTER.
