Summary
Some secrets are too devastating to be told...
When Natalie Moore is killed in a freak accident in France, her mother - the very poised and elegant Jessica - knows instinctively there is more to it.
However, Natalie's father - the glamorous, high-flying Charlie - is so paralysed by the horror of losing his daughter that he refuses even to discuss his wife's suspicions.
In the end, when their marriage is rocked by yet another terrible shock, Jessica decides to go back to France alone in search of some answers. When she gets to the idyllic vineyard in the heart of Burgundy, she soon finds a great deal more than she was expecting in a love that is totally forbidden and a truth that will almost certainly devastate her life.
Set during one long hot summer in a sleepy world of wine, food and romance, "A French Affair" is a deeply sensual and passionate story of love, resistance, loyalty and betrayal.

A French Affair
I have never reviewed a book before but this book is, quite frankly, unbelievable. The way in which the very recent death of a child is handled is so shallow as to be insulting. It is quite clear the author has absolutely no idea how an event such as this impacts on anyone, let alone a parent. I have close friends who lost a child 4 years ago and their grief is still very apparent. The return to virtually normal life of this family within weeks of their bereavement is almost cruel in its lack of regard for anyone finding themselves in this position. A disgrace.

Enjoyable read
Would you consider the audio edition of A French Affair to be better than the print version?
I am visually impaired, which is why I use Audible - I can no longer read print. The question is a little insensitive as I would imagine this is why many members use Audible.
What did you like best about this story?
The French setting - I love France and it transported me to many of the places I have visited.
What about Karen Cass’s performance did you like?
Everything - her French was really good and she read it with passion and empathy. A really good performance.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Nothing that particularly stood out.
Any additional comments?
This is a little different, and somewhat raunchier that Susan Lewis's usualy style. The description of the setting was wonderful and trnsported me there. I think the previous review/comment was somewhat harsh. After all, this was a bit of a "who dun it" story with a mother desparate to find aunswers. I did guess fairly early on one of the factors revealed towards the end, but wont divulge here in case it spoils it for future readers.

Great read
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, this was a great book that really held my interest right through and the 'secret' was a complete shock. The characters were all believable and strong. The plot was very well woven and the story interesting and well written The narrator was excellent and one of the best that I have heard to date. A throughly good listen !
What other book might you compare A French Affair to, and why?
None really it is a stand alone book
What does Karen Cass bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Atmosphere
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely
Any additional comments?
Just a thoroughly good book

dissappointing
I usually enjoy Susan Lewis's writing, but this is the first time I"ve listened to her on audio. The story was bland and uninteresting and predictable never mind the ridiculous GRATING french accent used by the narrator.I have yet to finish this audiobook, I'm sure only complete boredom would have to occur before I go back to it.
