A fascinating , fact-based narration of how Nigeria came to be. What is really compelling about this account amongst others, is the contextualization amidst other global events that shaped events before British colonization, during British colonization and after Nigerian independence. This book sits nicely with the conclusions made in the 'Silk Roads' by Peter Francopan and 'Why Nations Fail' by Acemoglu, stressing that colonial Britain cared more about her own interests rather than the interests and peculiarities of the regions they conquered. Lord Lugard and subsequent Governor Generals, did a great dis-service to Nigerians that still plagues the nation till today. They are long gone, but their actions have resulted in the deaths of thousands, entrenched corruption, ravaging poverty and terrorism. This book identifies the root cause of our current problems, it is sad, truly a missed opportunity. Every Nigerian should have a copy and hopefully we can agree to redress the evil actions of colonial Britain.
