Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

November 1924. The Endeavour sets sail from Southampton carrying 2,000 passengers and crew on a week-long voyage to New York.

When an elderly gentleman is found dead at the foot of a staircase, ship's officer Timothy Birch is ready to declare it a tragic accident. But James Temple, a strong-minded Scotland Yard inspector, is certain there is more to this misfortune than meets the eye.

Birch agrees to investigate, and the trail quickly leads to the theft of a priceless painting. Its very existence is known only to its owner...and the dead man.

With just days remaining until they reach New York, and even Temple's purpose on board the Endeavour proving increasingly suspicious, Birch's search for the culprit is fraught with danger.

And all the while, the passengers continue to roam the ship with a killer in their midst....

Disappointing

I was really looking forward to this title but I’ve rarely experienced such a poor narration - such a shame

I couldn’t stop listening

Loved how the scene was set onboard the ship and the story really kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who did it.

Was totally not prepared for what happened at the end!

Would 100% recommend this to anyone who loves a good mystery

Enjoyable art related mystery.

The plot here has something of the Agatha Christie about and, depending on your taste, you can take that any way you want but it’s an enjoyable read written with a light hand.

Struggled!

I was so excited to read this book but goodness did I struggle to finish it. Bitter perseverance and grim determination got me to the last chapters which were actually mildly entertaining. I love Agatha Christie and will be sticking with the OG Royal Highness of the whodunnit in the future!

Boring narrator but good story

Good story but unfortunately marred by very dull narration. I wish I’d read the book myself and I may have enjoyed it more.

A Fatal Narration

I always feel it's unfair to review a book based on the inadequacies of the narrator but if you take my money you deserve nothing but the truth. And my truth is: I couldn't continue listening to this – actually I didn't even make it to the middle.

Dreadfully boring narration - DNF

I’ve heard this is a good story and I liked Murder Party by the same author - so decided to give this a go. Unfortunately. I didn’t finish this book on audible as I couldn’t concentrate over the complete lack of interesting narration. I returned the title for something else and will buy the book in paper format to finish on my own.

probably a good story but...

the narration is DREADFUL. The prose is really well written, but I'm struggling to get past the first couple of chapters. Absolutely no charisma, or interest, in the narration; the narrator sounds bored, and it is impossible to stay engaged with at all. Such a shame as it's shaping up to be a good story

Dull mystery that makes no waves

Here is a haiku review:

Dreary characters
Predictable and bland twist
Good narration, though.

Poor narration

Couldn't finish as I did not enjoy the narration - wanted to return title but unable to as well. Really disappointed.
