Summary

The new Higgins has landed! The mesmerizing new Sean Dillon thriller of murder, terrorism, and revenge from the Sunday Times best-selling author is here.

Fresh from his mission in The Judas Gate to seek out and eliminate one of al Qaeda’s most valued agents, a traitor responsible for countless soldiers’ deaths in Afghanistan, Sean Dillon is back in a blistering new adventure. The American president, on a planned visit to Europe, is entertained by the British prime minister on the terrace of the House of Commons. On the same day, London-born Mullah Ali Salim makes an impassioned speech at Hyde Park Corner accusing the president of war crimes, objecting to his presence, and offering a blessing to anyone who will assassinate him. Dillon, Major Ferguson, and Daniel Holley are called into action, helped by a new recruit, Intelligence Corp Captain Sara Gideon, a war hero in the Afghan conflict, whose speciality is Pashta and Iranian.

They quickly find themselves trying to handle a massive upsurge in terrorism from enemies near and far, all with links to al Qaeda. As a Sephardic Jew from a wealthy and ancient English family, Sara will find herself at the heart of the firestorm when she is swept into the heart of the terror organisation. Though their leader may be gone the threat remains as terrible as ever, and though Dillon and company may have won the first battle with al Qaeda, they will learn the war is far from over. A devil is indeed waiting and the assassination plan is only the beginning…

Another winner from Jack Higgins with Sean Dillon.

Another exciting adventure with Charles Ferguson and company. Bringing justice and eliminating another terrorist threat. A good story not to miss.

NSFW or long family car journeys

I try hard to work out what will be good for a trip with my family (kids aged 10, 12, 14 and 15). It's got to be a ripping yarn and contain nothing to embarrass us as we go. Sadly there is way too much swearing in this, and it's pretty graphic. I shall be 'returning' it for something else. Great that audible allows you to do that. I know that sounds old-fashioned but whenever the Irish guys show up, the air turns blue. We gave up and listened to D-Day by Stephen Ambrose instead.

Yet another great story

I love this series. feel like I know the main characters personally. The stories are serious and gripping but not dark. Johnathan Oliver performs brilliantly. Can't wait to start the next episode!

A devil is waiting

Having read most of Jack Higgins books over many years, I , have just finished ' a devil is waiting'. I am pleased to say that he still has the ability to keep you wanting more in a good romping yarn. He is truly one of the top adventure story tellers around. As a disabled person books take me to places I would not otherwise be able to go. Thankyou

A Devil is waiting

Great story but didn't enjoy the flat emotionless narrator ~ this seems a requirement of Jack Higgins books.

Offensive for anyone from Ireland North or South

I decided to try this new form of enjoying a book for the craic. Now I'm a big fan of Jack Higgins. I got hooked on The Eagle books, and A Prayer for the Dying. The film version of this was terrible, especially Mickey Rourke's 'Orrish' accent. However that pales in comparison to the Irish accents attempted in the narration of this book. It's from the Quiet man's bumper book of stereotypical accents. Being from Northern Ireland, North of Ireland, the six counties whatever you want to call yourself, this is highly offensive to all of us. The story is lost in the reading as the accents make it laughable and it's difficult to concentrate on the actual narrative. I listened to one chapter and tried to return it however if all the Sean Dillon series are read like this I would recommend you stay clear. The reading of Jack Higgins books deserves better
