About this listen

Nineteen-year-old Baran Arslan gets a shocking Christmas present from his father. When Turkish businessman Marat Arslan discovers his son is gay, he flies him from Istanbul to New York City for the holiday - and abandons him. Cut off from access to his family and any funds Baran must figure out how to survive. Fortunately, he speaks English and soon meets a young man who directs him to Rainbow Haven, a homeless shelter for gay young men.

Twenty-eight-year-old Darien Moore has the looks, charm and inherited wealth that would have allowed him to become the perfect New York City playboy. Instead, he has invested his time and money to create Rainbow Haven. He’s found his purpose in providing not just shelter, but a place of hope where young men can rebuild their lives.

This Christmas, Baran needs a loving, protective Daddy, and Darien needs a boy to love and care for. Rainbow Haven may just be the place where Santa grants both their wishes.

A Daddy for Christmas 2 is a multi-author series. Holiday tales of lost boys in need of Daddy’s love and in some cases, a firm hand. Naughty or nice, it’s all in Santa’s hands now. So why not dive in and read each standalone and enjoy the holidays alongside our boys.

Baran flies to New York to visit his father, only to find his father has discovered something about him that he finds unacceptable in a son - he's gay. Cast out with no money and knowing no one, Baran faces a bleak future on the streets u til he meets Silas and learns about Rainbow Haven, a shelter for young men in just his position. There, Baran is taken in and meets the founder and director of the shelter, wealthy Darien Moore, Miss Archer and other residents of the shelter. Although initially shell-shocked by the events, Baran proves resilient and begins to work at the shelter. This brings him closer to Darien and the two develop feelings for each other. Their path is not a smooth one, however, as Baran's father proves a wily opponent to both Darien and Baran, There are those at the shelter plotting against them and it turns out Baran has a tendency to run for a train when things get stressful. Watching these characters sort out their emotional conflicts in the midst of Christmas in glorious NYC makes for a book full of heartache, hope and healing. Those of you who read Brina Brady's Christmas books last year have a surprise meeting with some favorite characters and those who are irritated by characters who forgive and forget too easily will find that Brady has not let that happen here. Baran acts like a mature, self-confident young man at the end of this story to most satisfying effect.

It's always a treat to get one of Brina Brady's audiobooks narrated by James Talbot. You know he's going to "get" the characters she's written. Here, he lets us hear Baran's pain as he tries to connect with his father and hope as he starts to believe in Darien's love as well as showing us both sides of Baran's father. We hear the cold man who rejects his son and also the man at the end of the book who's learned a few things. Fortunately, so has Baran and we can hear the maturity and resolve in his voice and how he's changed from the scared young man at the beginning of the story. A great reading by James Talbot here.
