About this listen

When the fourth princess of Istalam is due to dedicate herself to a path serving the crown, she makes a choice that shocks everyone, herself most of all: She leaves.

In hiding and exiled from power, Miyara finds her place running a tea shop in a struggling community that sits on the edge of a magical disaster zone. But there's more brewing under the surface of this city—hidden magic and hidden machinations—that threaten all the people who've helped her make her own way.

Miyara may not be a princess anymore, but with a teapot in hand, she'll risk her newfound freedom to discover a more meaningful kind of power.

A Coup of Tea is the first book of the Tea Princess Chronicles, a cozy fantasy series full of magic tea, friendship, and lifting people up even when the odds seem impossible.

The reading is very good and the story is interesting but the lore is a bit hard to understand at first and the narrative drives into politics a bit too complicated

A different story

I LOVED every topic in this book, because I'm a real life witch so of course it would appeal to me and that's why I carried on listening. However if I'm being honest there were things I just didn't understand , tea ceremony? what's that lol. and I never really understood what Istalam was, I mean I know it's where it was set, but I didn't grasp the concept of the place. there is a species called Gilanni, and its not really that well described as to what they look like or who they are as a people. I also don't understand why on earth they call a tea pot a tea pet (I know that's not how you spell it). I think including different voice actors would have added depth to this narrative. overall, very good. unmistakably magickal, but a little confusing. I think the writter may have made it a bit too confusing and added things in the story that didn't really need to be there, a dangerous walk up the spiral stairs with the dragons, why? I'm not being mean but I have to be honest. its still beautiful and I loved it, so I'm giving it a 3.5 out of 5

This skilfully world-built fantasy combines politics, mystery, individual and group struggles, personalities and love… plus tea and dragons. Perfect from start to finish.
