Summary

This quintessential Christmas tale shows Dickens at his dazzling and provocative best, leaving Scrooge no doubts about the true spirit of Christmas, nor about the perils of ignoring the insistent ghosts of Christmases Past, Present...and Yet to Come.

The incomparable Paul Scofield

One of my favourite recordings of A Christmas Carol (and I've heard quite a few). The mellifluous voice of Paul Scofield is a treat to listen to. BUT this is an abridged version so we are deprived of the entirety of Dickens' words. Hence 4 stars for the story and overall. Oh! How I wish Scofield had recorded an unabridged version! Well worth buying though - if only to hear a master at work.
