Summary

Scrooge! His name has become synonymous with being miserly and miserable, especially at Christmas! A Christmas Carol is the much-loved novella by Charles Dickens which tells Scrooge's story. This mean, misanthropic man is visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, and then three spirits: the ghosts of Christmas Past, of Christmas Present, and of Christmas Yet to Come. These spirits show him visions that illustrate how his selfish attitude and behavior affect the people in his circle of friends and family. Further, he's shown how and why his own life has been affected in the past.

In this version, the memorable characters of this timeless classic are skillfully brought to life and the unaffected, clear narrative delivers Charles Dickens' prose with an intimate performance of clarity and accessibility.

Characters brought to life

A wonderful telling of this Christmas story. Chris MacDonnell brings the characters wonderfully to life - his voice is just perfect to conjure up pictures, and make you feel you are watching a film, not listening to an audio book.

Funnily enough I've never actually read this book, but now I feel I really know the characters, and loved the story. At only 3 hours long, it would be perfect to listen to in instalments whilst doing Christmas preparations. I shall certainly listen to it again in future years.

So good I've already downloaded another audio book with the same narrator - can't wait to see how he brings that one to life.

A classic tale for christmas

This is Dickens, and one of his most famous works! It could't be less than five stars, and since the performance was good and also correct for the story it is a five stars too! If you still haven't read it, this is the right time of the year for a short but poweful story!

Scrooge Learns God Bless Us Everyone

I received a copy from either the author, narrator, or producer to provide a voluntary and honest review.

A Christmas Carol is a well know. Charles Dickens story. I had never read the book but have seen numerous movies or theater productions. I truly loved listening to the book and feel I’ve missed out by not having read the book. Clever dialogue and deeper descriptions of Scrooge and his partner Marley. Loved the thought process behind ‘dead as a door nail’. The narrator was incredible, providing emotion and seamlessly engaging me in the story.
Enjoy during the Holidays or anytime. Worth the credit or the money. Enjoy a Christmas Carol in a new way.

A wonderful classic!

A Christmas Carol is one of those timeless tales you want to hear around Christmas every year! A cranky old rich man and an event that changes his outlook and personality. Mr. MacDonnell did an excellent job narrating, especially with Mr. Scrooge’s craggily cranky voice!

Wonderfully Told

Narrator Chris MacDonnell performs this classic tale beautifully. Never going over the top, but holding the listener in his hands by his natural gift of storytelling. I am thankful for the opportunity to listen to this classic unabridged. Another story from the public domain professionally produced in conjunction with Spoken Realms. Bravo!

Performed with personality

If anyone else is like me and would struggle getting around to reading Dickens novels in print, I'd recommend this audiobook to you. Chris MacDonnell brings personality plus to the task of narration. His performance made it easier for me to listen to the book with my children. Kind thanks! This audiobook was provided this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.
