Simply adored every moment of this and will certainly listen again.
Tom speaks with such humour and warmth about nature, the British countryside, family, friends ...and cats.
It's the equivalent of, in audio book from, of a long walk in the country followed by curling up in your favourite armchair with hot chocolate, cheese on toast, a dog at your feet and a cat on your lap.

The only book for a long while that has actually made me laugh out loud. Brilliantly written, funny and nicely narrated.

I loved this book. I was t expecting to read it, but as my wife laughed out loud yet again I had to ask. But with so many actual books ‘backed up” thee was probably a slight chance. And then I noticed it on audible and would now say this is the only way to ‘read’ it. I’m an [English] midlander but and accent 40 miles east of me is too difficult to mimic. And if you want the hilarious elements you have to hear Mr Cox presenting the very amusing anecdotes in their mother tongue, including his Dad who is an hilarious eccentric. You just need a love of the countryside, and perhaps a touch of a desire for nostalgia, and you will finish this brilliant book with a big smile on your face.

I have enjoyed all Tom Cox books I have read so far, however this and The Villager are my joint top. listening to Tom tell this story as I drove to work or between visits gave me wee moments of the day to look forward to. After listening to this, not only would I like to meet Tom , I want to meet his parents and cats.

Brilliant storytelling

I loved Tom Cox reading his own story. I have read, listened to, several of his other books. Each is a delight in its handling of realism of country life and also a hark back to ancient myths and traditions. This book gives a humorous and honest peek into his family life as well. Dad is great!!!
