Despite its age, the story is still very relevant today, you can easily relate some of the thoughts in this book with modern day social and political conflicts. I think that it is a book everyone should either read or listen to at some point in their life, it has clearly inspired so many stories and worlds since it was written. The performance was also good, read clearly with an interesting voice that goes well with the dystopian world of 1984 and distinctive voices for all characters.

I had not read this book since being a student many years ago. It was well worth revisiting. Although it is a critique of totatilatarianism (both fascism and communism) it has much to say to those of us living in 21st century democracies. Have we not got "thought police" and "newspeak"? Are we not under constant surveillance. Is not Big Brother watching us? Is this intrusion always as benign as we suppose? It is also a literary masterpiece. The narration is excellent. Orwell was prophetic.

I, at last got round to listening to this classic by Orwell, and overall found it to be a highly compelling audio experience.

Set in a futuristic totalitarian society where living conditions for the likes of Winston and other outer party members are extremely grim, Orwell paints a very detailed picture of the world that Winston and the proles inhabit. We only get to see a tiny peep of how the inner party members live through the characer of O'Brien, especially when Winston and Julia come to visit him at his home.

There are so many classic devices and ideas that have transcended this book such as Room 101, doublethink, thoughtcrime, Big Brother, etc, which many people will have heard of who have not even read this book. This in itself is testament to the originality and inventiveness of Orwell's writing, and the frightening predictiveness of the world he imagined back then.

And when you consider that Orwell was really unwell with TB whilst working on this masterpiece at a remote Scottish farmhouse in Jura, it makes you wonder whether he could have written an even better book if he had been in good health (not that this needs any improvement).

Finally, Andrew Wincott's narration was first rate all the way. I felt he really added something special to this work.

I really enjoyed this from beginning to end. The story holds up to the passage of time and is more unsettling than ever. The narrator does a fantastic job and creates a perfect flow. Highly recommend listening.

Animal farm, but the boom is so unique it's very difficult to say, it's a David Icke dream but so many truths in 2015 predicted all the way from 1948, true visionary
