About this listen

Toby Grant spends his days working for a digital marketing agency and his nights stressing about how unfair life is for his generation. With a 30th birthday only months away and his finances approaching meltdown, it’s fair to say Toby isn’t a happy millennial. His parents’ generation had it so much easier...or did they?

After a series of rather unfortunate events, Toby is offered an opportunity to discover exactly what life was like for his parents’ generation, courtesy of a journey back in time to 1969.

However, life in pre-decimal Britain isn’t quite as simple as Toby envisaged. And neither, as it transpires, is time travel.

The beginning scenario that put our ‘hero’ in a situation to meet the person with the time-travel device was laboured and very unlikely. Then, why would he try to go back in time and then be so unbelieving when he arrived, and for so long. One view of the date should have been enough, not some stupid idea that the whole world were in on a silly prank.

Worth finishing, but a bit pondorous

Too many long pauses by narrator. Otherwise a great story, can't wait for the sequel

Brilliant story

I admit, I am a fan of time-travel stories, and ultimately, this one did not disappoint. It was touch and go for a while though...

The story gets off to a slow start, and was not helped by the choice of narrator. The main character is a 29-year old from the suburbs of London, and the narrator does that in a realistic way - slightly annoying, a little whiny and with a tinge of entitlement. Not lovable, but then I suspect he wasn't really meant to be. Unfortunately, he's not good at accents though.

This is an audiobook that would have benefited immeasurably from having a cast of narrators doing the different parts.

But I kept going, and I'm glad I did. Interesting twists, some very emotional moments, good tension and drama, and a dash of measured commentary on old times vs modern times, and on time itself.

Stick with it, you'll be glad you did.

Overall, I'm glad I listened
