Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his perfect son Achilles. Despite their differences, Achilles befriends the shamed prince, and as they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and medicine, their bond blossoms into something deeper – despite the displeasure of Achilles's mother Thetis, a cruel sea goddess. But when word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, Achilles must go to war in distant Troy and fulfill his destiny. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus goes with him, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they hold dear.

This is most certainly one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to. A retelling of the story of Achilles and Patroclus in such a beautiful intense and compassionate tone, from the writer as much as the narrator, I hardly ever came across before. Frazer Douglas has the absolute perfect voice to tell this intimate story. Wonderful from the first second to the last.

What a gem!

Throughout most of the book, I didnt quite understand why knowing every detail about the protagonists life is so important but in the end it all makes sense. I cried at the train station. :/

First time learning about any sort of Greek mythology stories and I loved it. Finished it within a week or so, so beautifully told, well narrated and the story was excellent. Can't wait to start Circe.

Beautifully told

This retelling of Achilles & Patroclus was a beautifully crafted story. I listened to it on Audible and the only negative I found with it was the narrators dry tone other than that this was a slow burn with an inevitable ending yet I couldn’t get enough of it. Gorgeously tender moments mixed with the raw brutalities of war - it’s a slow meandering rollercoaster of emotions which has inescapably made me want to read anything and everything Madeline Miller writes from now on. Next up Circe.

A beautiful retelling

The narrator's voice was so calm and soothing, and also fitting to the storyline, if you ask me. As for the book itself, it's the best one I've ever read. It made me cry for days! I'm so glad the author wrote about this love story, not as the historical like to call Achilles and Patroclus: best friends, but actual lovers, as they probably were. 10/10

It was amazing!
