Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Pickpocket John Jacob Turnstile is on his way to be detained at His Majesty's Pleasure when he is offered a lifeline, what seems like a freedom of sorts - the job of personal valet to a departing naval captain. Little does he realise that it is anything but - and by accepting the devil's bargain he will put his life in perilous danger. For the ship is HMS Bounty, his new captain William Bligh and their destination Tahiti.
From the moment the ship leaves port, Turnstile's life is turned upside down, for not only must he put his own demons to rest, but he must also confront the many adversaries he will encounter on the Bounty's extraordinary last voyage. Walking a dangerous line between an unhappy crew and a captain he comes to admire, he finds himself in a no-man's land where the distinction between friend and foe is increasingly difficult to determine....

Another BRILLIANT book from John Boyne!
Another gripping story with a brilliant main character, and supporting characters. The narrator was also excellent. I loved this audio book and would highly recommend it.

A story worth retelling
I read this out of curiosity when I saw the title and the author. I think Mr Boyne saw the previous vilification of Bligh as unfair an used a fictional character to put things right… beautifully read… more acted!

Superlative
John Boyne is a storyteller par excellence. A truly enjoyable read. We’re I to pick a single, minute fault it would be the Disneylandesque ending.

Loved this gripping story
This was from the start a beautifully written, and narrated story. It made me look into the history of the Bounty and really made history live.
The narrator was completly brilliant and put so much warmth and personality to the characters that each and every one of them I wanted to meet, even the bad ones!
Another brilliant book by John Boyne, who never fails to sweep me into his other worlds and hold me entranced.

Fantastic narrator, brilliant story
Not what I expected, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. (I had no particular interest in this historical story, until I listened to this), but all the characters were rich and the writing was beautiful

Excellent book ... Excellent narrator!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not my usual type of book but I chose to read it as it was by John Boyne , one of my very favourite authors. Completely different in style from any of his other books that I’ve listened to but completely captivating as it turned out.
Piers Hampton was a splendid reader and could change from character to character seemingly effortlessly. He never seemed as though he was a narrator changing his voice to appear to be a different person ... he just ‘was’ a different person! Very talented.
I have listened to several of John Boyne’s books and enjoyed each of them ... all completely different but exceptionally good. The readers were different in every case but all exceptional
