About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Read by Kristin Atherton, Roy McMillan, Clare Corbett, Tom Bateman, Patience Tomlinson & Shaheen Kahn.

From author of THE ONE - now a major Netflix series - and THE FAMILY EXPERIMENT!

Eight self-drive cars set on a collision course. Who lives, who dies? You decide.

A gripping page-turning thriller for fans of BLACK MIRROR from the bestselling author of THE ONE.

When someone hacks into the systems of eight self-driving cars, their passengers are set on a fatal collision course.

The passengers are: a TV star, a pregnant young woman, a disabled war hero, an abused wife fleeing her husband, an undocumented immigrant, a husband and wife - and parents of two - who are travelling in separate vehicles and a suicidal man. Now the public have to judge who should survive but are the passengers all that they first seem?

'Provocative, terrifying and compulsive. Another savagely clever near future thriller' Cara Hunter, bestselling author of CLOSE TO HOME

'A 1970s disaster movie by way of Black Mirror, with a dash of Michael Crichton ... a sleek, exhilarating ride' Financial Times

"One of the most exciting, original thriller writers out there, I never miss one of his books." - Simon Kernick

Brilliantly written and so current. In the age of artificial intelligence and technology, this is truly terrifying and scarily believable! I for one am never getting into a fully automated vehicle!!
John Marrs is an amazing story teller and makes you engage emotionally with all the characters ! 5 stars!!! You must listen to

This is one of the best books I’ve read for a long time. Fascinating storyline which touches on some important issues regarding the future ethics of tech and AI. Loved it

My life has gone neglected whilst I binge this! I suggest you read to the one first as it tied in. Thriller with a good amount of technology, twists and morality

Thriller or sci fi

The sound effects aren’t needed, they are more notification sounds and jingles, I suppose they might add to the story a little, but for me they were a little distracting. I do enjoy audio dramas as well as audiobooks. I like sound effects that improve the story such as foley. So car sounds key board clicks etc. Multiple actors in my opinion only works when one actor does one character. And sticks to that character no matter who is speaking, it gets a little confusing otherwise. This story reminds me how there are always 3 sides to every story. You need to hear both sides then work out the third side to get to the truth. I didn’t have a problem with any of the narrators, I just prefer it when one person does one voice, this only happened a few times. This wasn’t a book I could listen to at bed time, with the jingles it was too distracting. I enjoyed the storyline.

Fantastic listen! Just didn't want it to end, it isn't very often that you come across a unique story and this kept me enthralled right to the end. Loved it from start to finish, thank you John Marrs!

Intriguing!
