Welcome to The Close - a beautiful street of mansions, where gorgeous Stella is the indisputable Queen Bee . . .

It is here that Laura, seeking peace and privacy after her marriage falls apart, rents a tiny studio. Unfortunately, her arrival upsets suspicious Stella - who fears Laura has designs on her fiancé, Al.

When Laura stumbles on the big secret Al is hiding, suddenly Stella's perfectly controlled world, and Laura's future, are threatened.

Taking a chance on beating Al at his own twisted game, these two former strangers are fast becoming friends.

But has Laura forgotten that revenge always comes with a sting in the tail?

I haven’t had any of this authors books before but I purchased this book after hearing it reviewed on TV. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. An insight as to how life can change us in habit and ourselves. From living the high life to a downfall. Great page turner and I will get more from this author. A good book and highly recommended.

Good story line

This was my first Jane Fallon book... I thoroughly enjoyed it! Loved the descriptions of the ladies in the close... with all the Botox!
Pure escapism...just what I needed.. listened on audiobook and enjoyed listening to the voice of the narrator

Loved it ... pure escapism

I’m always reluctant to write much of a review really because I think they can influence & give too much away, but I am interested in what others thought about this book and the characters. I found I didn’t like any of them in fact the main character was awful, poking about in other people’s private things (for whatever reason) & being so in awe of these silly women. I felt they were all quite sad. However, I stuck with it as Jane Fallon writes a good story but I think there has to be at least one nice character in it.

Silly women, all of them.

Easy to follow, light-hearted story. I just found it a bit unlikely that anyone would have gone so deep into the scenario with their temporary neighbours. Why did she care what they thought when she clearly didn't like them much at the start anyway? She really seemed to jump to conclusions and could have ended up in trouble with the police for snooping on her clients. That said, it's a harmless and sometimes amusing holiday read.

Light, fun but slightly irritating

Enjoyed it, easy listening, not the best of Jane Fallon but still enjoyable and worth the read
