About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Thomas Cale has been running from his enemies. Raised and trained in an underground programme - the Sanctuary - he was sent to destroy God's greatest mistake, mankind itself.

Cale is a paradox: arrogant and innocent, generous and pitiless. Feared and revered by those that created him, he has already used his terrifying talent for violence and destruction to bring down the most powerful civilisation in the world.

But Thomas Cale has been caught. He's been given a choice. Bring down the world's best hope for order, for honesty and for progress, or condemn his soul to hell.

The fate of humankind rests on Cale's decision.

Critic reviews

Praise for Paul Hoffman
Exhilaratingly engaging writing, imbued with zest and intelligence
Brooding and magnificent. Hoffman has created a terrifying world and fitted it with strange and complex characters (Eoin Colfer)
Gripped me from the first chapter and then dropped me days later, dazed and grinning to myself (Conn Iggulden)
A riveting, powerful tale, with irresistible characters, humor and a brilliantly imagined world
This is fiction on a grand and ambitious scale. Inspires sensations of terror, nausea, bemusement and exhilaration

Great book if you don’t mind and anti hero or except reality delivered in fiction.. an intelligent alternate past or future who knows..
enter into it with no expectations if you listened to the previous books don’t like to put words into an authors thoughts but I would hate to be stuck in his head

Dark dark cosmic accident

Wasn't sure at first but found myself enjoying the alternative world with both familiar and different timeliness and events. TC remains an excellent character.

Enjoyed the transposed world

If you really liked The Left Hand of God, and maybe wondered what happened to him, you’ll stand a very good chance of absolutely loving this! IMHO even funnier, sadder and more thought-provoking than the originals.

A truly fantastic follow up to the Left Hand of God trilogy

Having read all the past entries in this series I was looking forward to this immensely. I cannot help but wish that Cale would get it together a little more, as the villainy of the first books was always the most fun, never the less this is a exceptionally well written book. If you like the first law books, this series will scratch your itch

Excellent in all respects

this book was very different from the previous 3 books in the series although I am not sure if that's only because I listened to this one on audible. there are certainly words used that made me uncomfortable to listen to on the cars audio system when driving anywhere there was a crowd. that being said it was still a really good alternative history, a twisting of events which actually happened to fit a fantasy story
