More than Self-Disicpline
- By Daniel K. on 15-03-17
Summary
From Amy Morin, author of '13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do', the article that went viral and garnered a million views in two weeks, comes the ultimate how-to guide to overcome the obstacles getting in the way of a fabulous, more fulfilling and happier life.
Morin knows that of which she speaks. At just 26, while working as a psychologist and therapist, Morin's husband died suddenly. Inwardly reeling, she realised what pitfalls she didn't want to succumb to: self-pity, a sense of entitlement and resentment. In the 10 years since then, she's refined these principles and worked on them with countless patients. The results are impressive.
In this book, we learn to identify the 13 common habits that hold us back in life, and how to avoid them. We go to the gym to build up our physical muscles, but we haven't yet thought about mental strength: the real key to a more productive and meaningful life. This revolutionary book shows you how.

A practical guide to building mental strength
This is a straightforward guide to building your mental strength. There's no waffle or vague affirmations in this book, just down to earth advice to help you find some direction if you sometimes struggle with mental health (who doesn't?). It could almost be called a fitness book for the mind, with lots of practical guidance, in an easy to follow structure.
As others have said the narration by the author let's the audio book down a bit. It's quite monotone, but otherwise well presented.

Quite good practical mental health advice
This was overall quite pleasant to listen to. I suggest speeding the reader's voice up just a bit as she can sound very gloomy otherwise. Also, though clearly communicated, some of the points are over explained and there were many lines which spelt out the very obvious. The examples of her clients felt more relevant than some of the inspiring individuals she talked about. Though interesting, the latter did not always feel that relevant, but I guess they added more positive notes to the book. Would probably recommend, even if you don't find any great epiphanies in it, the advice is worth having a reminder of.

Best Personal Development Audio I've listened to.
This Audible book ranks in the My Top 5 of All personal development media.
I've listened to, read books, watched videos and gone to a load of personal development courses over the last 15 years or so.I've spent a lot of money and downloaded a load of stuff from Anthony Robbins John Demartini and experts in their respective fields like Joe Navarro, James Althucher, Neil Strauss and Tim Ferris.
Completely enlightening. While there are things I am doing right, her examples showed where I was lacking and what I really needed to focus on and improve in myself. If you go through some self-introspection you'll find this audible book incredibly useful. As cliched as it sounds for me it was as if several lightbulbs lit up above my head I was listening to this I has a couple of breakthroughs in things I wasn't even fully cognizant of. It's like I had a session with a psychotherapist who has shown me the roots of my problems and how to deal with them. I look forward to listening to this again.
Finally, the biggest recommendation I can make is this. I "found" this on the internet. I realised after I finished it, I had to buy this.
Buy this. You will not be disappointed.
