Haroun's father is the greatest of all storytellers. His magical stories bring laughter to the sad city of Alifbay.

But one day something goes wrong and his father runs out of stories to tell.

Haroun is determined to return the storyteller's gift to his father. So he flies off on the back of the Hoopie bird to the Sea of Stories - and a fantastic adventure begins.

Reminded me of Philip Pullman’s The firework maker’s daughter. Enjoyed it immensely. Excellent narrator too.

Brilliant weaving of profound meanings

Brilliant magical realist novel, great for children and adults. Hidden politicalities with a twist of fantasy and obvious storytelling.

I read this book when I was a teenager and LOVED it, now it’s on audible decades later I’d recommend it to anyone. The imaginative story opens up a magical world, and the narration performance does it justice; the different voices truly bringing the characters to life. Still one of my favourite books after all these years. Big thanks to Mr Rushdie for brightening up the world
