心やさしく動物が大好きな“私”は、お酒におぼれて人が変わってしまった。気がつくと、愛する猫を殺していた。ある日酒場で、かつての飼い猫とそっくりの黒猫と出会い……（黒猫）。“私”は死刑を待つ地下牢の囚人。天井からせまりくるとがった振り子が私の体を引き裂くまであとわずか。この恐怖はいつまで続くのか（落とし穴と振り子）。

エドガー・アラン・ポー（Edgar Allan Poe）
1809年1月19日～1849年10月7日。アメリカ合衆国ボストン市生まれの小説家・詩人。血液型はAB型。1841年に発表された小説『モルグ街の殺人』には探偵のC・オーギュスト・デュパンが登場し、史上初の推理小説と評価されることが多く、その後の推理小説の発展に寄与した。また、ホラー小説の分野でも一時代を代表する作家とみなされている。さらに作品に科学的事実を取り入れる手法はジュール・ヴェルヌによって注目され、近代SF発展の一因ともなった。詩人としては、自らの詩を解説しながら詩の構築を説いた『詩の原理』で、フランスの詩人、ボードレール、ステファヌ・マラルメなどの象徴派の系譜に多大な影響を与えた。ちなみに日本の推理作家、江戸川乱歩の名前は、エドガー・アラン・ポーをもじって付けられたものである。©2022 panrolling Fairy Tales, Folk Tales & Myths Literature & Fiction
