Summary
2038年、感染症対策データ分析官で中国系日本人の吴 隆生（ウー・タカオ）は中央アジアのカザフスタン共和国を訪れた。最終目的地は共和国の北の隅、ロシアや中国と国境を接するソルヴェノク難民キャンプ。人口70万都市へ変貌を遂げたキャンプで発生した苛烈型麻疹の封じ込めのため、政府に招待されたのだ。新型コロナは2022年に収束したが、その後も世界は何度となく感染症の猛威にさらされ、犠牲者を出してきた。日本の感染症対策センターで勤務経験があったとはいえ、まだ若い吴は自分を歓迎する人々に一抹の疑念を感じはじめる……。
