卵の賞味期限は通常、産卵日から3週間だが、実は冬場なら57日間は生食可。

卵に限らず、ほとんどの食品の賞味期限は実際より2割以上短く設定されている。だが消費者の多くは期限を1日でも過ぎた食品は捨て、店では棚の奥の日付が先の商品を選ぶ。小売店も期限よりかなり前に商品を撤去。
