Summary

みなさんがご存知のとおり、おばあさんが川で、おじいさんの着物かなにかを洗っていると、大きな桃が流れて… 桃から生まれた桃太郎は、(おじいさんやおばあさんのような生活をしたくなかったので)鬼が島への征伐を思い立ちました。おじいさんおばあさんは、(このわんぱくものを早く追い出したかったので)旗や太刀や黍団子を、言われるがままに持たせてやりました。道中、桃太郎は日本一(かどうかは分からない)黍団子(半分)と引きかえに、(頭のにぶい)いぬ、(いくじのない)さる、(もっともらしい)きじをお供にしました。そうして桃太郎と(けんかの絶えない)三匹のお供は鬼が島へとたどり着きました。鬼が島は、岩山ばかり(ではなく椰子がそびえ極楽鳥のさえずる天然の楽土)で、そこには恐ろしい(人間から離れて平和に安穏に暮らす)鬼たちがいました。桃太郎は旗を片手に号令しました。「進め!進め!鬼という鬼は見つけ次第、一匹も残らず殺してしまえ!」三匹のお供は、一生懸命(に逃げ回る鬼たちに対して一方的に)たたかいました…みなさんがご存知のとおり、日本一の桃太郎と三匹のお供は、(人質に取った)鬼の子供に宝物の車を引かせながら故郷へと帰りました。しかしその後の桃太郎は必ずしも幸福に一生を送ったわけではありませんでした…
