小説や映画などの好みが似ていた二人はLINEのやり取りで親交を深めていく。やがて凛は、光が親との関係に悩んでいることを知る。友人関係に悩んで退学を決めた凛だったが、半年間休学して四月から再び二年生として学校に通うことした。

――そして、夏休み明けの始業式の朝、遅刻して登校してきた凛のことを駐輪場で光が待っていた。母親を殺してきたと告げた光は、凛を連れて逃避行を始める。
これからどうするのかと問う凛に、光はあるゲームを提案する。それは、八月が終わるまでの七日間、一日一人ずつ交互に殺したい人間を殺していくというものだった……。
