 中島敦は1932年に満州や北中国を旅行しており、その際に体験したものを
題材とした作品となっている。

八年ぶりに母校である京城の中学校を訪れた三造はプールで
泳いでいると、過去にあった出来後事を回想しだす。
父と諍い、娼婦との過ごした夜、上級生からの暴力など自分の身内や身体への
コンプレックスにまつわる心情が描かれており
中島敦自身が過去に抱えていたものをプールの情景とあわせて
生み出したものではないかとも言われている。


中島敦（なかじま・あつし）
昭和時代前期の小説家。1909年東京生れ。東大国文科卒。
祖父は漢学者中島撫山、伯父にも漢学者が多く、父は中学の漢文教師。
1933年横浜高等女学校の教師となり、かたわら作家を志して習作にはげんだ。
持病の喘息悪化のため、転地療養を兼ねて41年パラオの南洋庁に赴任する。
唐代の伝奇「人虎伝」を素材にした「山月記」が深田久弥の推挽で42年2月の「文学界」に掲載され文壇にデビュー。同年5月発表の《光と風と夢》も好評で以後創作に専念。
パラオ南洋庁書記の職を辞して作家生活に入ろうとしたが、同年12月持病の喘息のために夭折した。代表作に「李陵(りりょう)」「弟子」「光と風と夢」など。©2022 PanRolling Asian Genre Fiction Literary Fiction World Literature
