ド・ラ・ラメー マリー・ルイーズ（de la Ramee, Marie Louise）-----------------
イギリス、サフォーク州生まれ。子どもの頃、自分の名前をうまく発音できず、ウィーダと言っていたところ、周りからもそう呼ばれるようになったため、これをそのまま筆名にした。1859年、20歳のときにロマンス小説でデヴューし、次々と作品を書いて人気作家となり、社交界で活躍する。イタリアの動物愛護協会設立に尽力するほど犬が好きで、1872年、前年のアントワープ旅行を元にした「フランダースの犬」を出版する。晩年は人間不信となり経済的にも苦しくなるが、自分の飼う犬たちのために少ない年金を使い、最終的には馬車の中で生活するまでになる。見かねた人々が安アパートに入れてくれたが、寒さのため身体が弱っており、肺炎をこじらせて亡くなった。
